WHO ARE COSMIC LAMA?

About

We are Cosmic Lama—an experimental world fusion and psychedelic electronic duo consisting of multi-instrumentalists Jordan Young and Ben Robertson.

More than just a musical project, we are a collective dedicated to curating immersive, multi-sensory psychedelic experiences. With a shared passion for eclectic sounds and a creative partnership spanning over a decade of performance and life experience together, we operate with a profound synergy to weave a living tapestry of sonic exploration.

Drawing deep inspiration from psychedelic pioneers like Shpongle, Younger Brother, Ott, Kalya Scintilla, Triple Echo, Bluetech, Carbon Based Lifeforms, and Supersillyus, we occupy a distinct, mid-tempo sonic architecture.

Our sound is a carefully crafted journey that intentionally bridges the hypnotic, introspective depths of Psydub with the driving, kinetic energy of psychedelic trance.

Cosmic Lama Live

Beyond the studio, we transform the stage into a sprawling, immersive Psychedelic Carnival. We’re known for our Live Hybrid Sets because we refuse to be confined by the traditional boundaries of electronic music performance. You won't find us standing statically behind a mixing desk. Instead, we actively blur the line between performer and audience, curating a highly theatrical, multi-sensory ritual designed to unite the Tribe. For us, a live show is a deeply human experience where the polished precision of digital production collides with the unpredictable magic of live instrumentation.

At the core of our performances is a seamless blend of ancient global instrumentation and futuristic pacing. We build our foundation on driving, hypnotic electronic beats, utilizing CDJs and Ableton Live to construct a massive low-end architecture. Whether we are playing over full tracks or utilizing individual stems, this digital pulse sets the stage.

Over that framework, we weave a breathtaking array of organic textures to add deep, earthly resonance to our electronic soundscapes. You'll hear primal didgeridoos and majestic native flutes cutting through heavy basslines, alongside live electric and bass guitars. We bring the energy to a boiling point using tribal Amazonian percussion, ethnic drums, singing bowls, and a collection of weird and wonderful wind instruments.

Ultimately, a Cosmic Lama Live Set is defined by our unwavering dedication to the human element. We frequently incorporate live vocals and loop pedals, creating entirely new, spontaneous soundscapes on the fly to prove that electronic performance can retain a beating, breathing heart.

Amidst all the high-tech gear and intricate synthesis, we intentionally leave room for raw, acoustic spontaneity—symbolized most famously by the rhythmic croak of our signature little wooden frog.

Our goal is to take you on an unforgettable sonic journey, transforming an ordinary festival stage into a shared space of wonder. When the right frequencies align, we believe music possesses the profound power to heal, inspire, and deeply connect us all.

Beyond The Stage

In the studio, we operate as an engine of meticulous musical alchemy, dedicated to crafting original music that pushes the boundaries of the psychedelic sound.

We engineer a frequency that actively defies simple categorization, throwing a wildly diverse array of genres into a swirling sonic melting pot. By blending the gritty, organic textures of Psychedelic Rock and Blues with the infectious, four-on-the-floor grooves of Disco, the heavy low-end of PsyBass, and the kinetic energy of PsyTrance, we create an auditory brew that is unmistakably and unapologetically psychedelic.

Our composition process fuses hyper-precise digital synthesis with the ancient breath of native flutes, live bass, and organic percussion. We aim to chop and weave human spontaneity into a breathing digital organism, creating immersive journeys that transport you to otherworldly realms.

Drawing profound inspiration from legendary pioneers like Simon Posford of Shpongle, Benji Vaughan of Younger Brother, and Kalya Scintilla, our studio philosophy fully materialized in our 2026 debut release, Llama or Lama. This record serves as our sonic manifesto, anchored by our ten-minute single, "Take This Moment," which captures our dynamic range by transitioning from ambient reflection to a driving, festival-ready anthem.

Never ones to pause the creative flow, we are currently preparing to drop "Sidequest," a driving transmission featuring live electric bass runs and intricate guitar motifs. Looking further toward the horizon, we are actively expanding our auditory footprint with our highly anticipated concept album, Songs From The Fridge.

This project pushes our foundational sound into unexpected, highly danceable territories, with studio sessions currently buzzing as we finalize the mixes for sprawling cuts like "Existence is Futile" and the ethereal melodies of "You Exist." For us, it’s all about a "mad scientist" dedication to constantly evolving our musical DNA and exploring the deepest borderlands of sound.

Our Musical Vision:

We believe in the power of music to heal, inspire, and connect. Our productions are a reflection of our own journeys of self-discovery and our desire to create something truly unique and transformative. We strive to weave together diverse influences, from the hypnotic depths of Psydub to the world music traditions that resonate with our souls, all while maintaining a distinctly danceable groove.
